Sticky Note (Negotiation/Mediation) Technique
This technique was created in 2015 by Joseph Cirillo, a Pennsylvania real estate broker.
When listening to a tenant’s story about the problems and issues they were having Mr. Cirillo found that it became difficult to identify the actual problems and issues given that each person communicates differently.
While listening to a tenant’s story each time a problem or issue was raised he would write that problem or issue on an individual sticky note.
At the end of the story, he would review each sticky note with the tenant to confirm that each sticky note was, in fact, a problem or issue.
Once confirm he would ask if there were any other problems or issues that were not identified.
If there were he would write each one down on an individual sticky note.
If not, he would then rearrange the sticky notes in an order from easiest to solve to hardest to solve.
This allowed him to resolve the majority of the problems and issues quickly before getting to the last few which required more discussion to resolve.
